Gameplay and setting

Monster Hunter Wilds centers on tracking and hunting large monsters, gathering materials from hunts and the environment, and using those resources to forge stronger weapons and armor. Hunters can choose from 14 weapon types, use Focus Mode to target wounds and weak points, and ride a Seikret that supports travel, gathering, item use, and carrying a second weapon. Hunts can be tackled alone, with Support Hunters, or with up to four players online. The story follows the Forbidden Lands Research Commission after the discovery of Nata, taking the hunter through changing ecosystems where locales shift between Fallow, Inclemency, and Plenty conditions.
